Wockhardt Hospitals in Mumbai Central has embraced cutting-edge technology with the introduction of the Stryker Mako Smart Robotics system. This innovative robotic arm-assisted technology is set to transform knee and hip replacement surgery
Wockhardt Hospitals in Mumbai Central has introduced the Stryker Mako Smart Robotics system, a revolutionary robotic arm-assisted technology, to revolutionize knee and hip replacement surgery. The hospital is the first South Mumbai hospital to use the Mako surgical robot for hip and knee replacements, demonstrating its commitment to precision and patient care.
The Mako Robot offers precision through CT images for joint planning, safety through haptic feedback, and faster recovery due to a surgical technique that minimizes muscle and tissue impact, making it a significant step forward in patient care and outcomes at Wockhardt Hospitals.
The first surgical procedures utilizing the Stryker Mako system were carried out successfully by Dr. Dermot Collopy, a Consultant at St. John of God Private Hospital in Perth, Australia. Dr. Collopy was present to provide training to surgeons, ensuring a smooth implementation of the system at Wockhardt Hospitals in Mumbai Central.
Together with the surgical team from Wockhardt Hospitals, Dr. Collopy conducted joint replacement surgeries on two patients using the Mako robotic arm-assisted surgical system, marking the system's debut in South Mumbai.
The Mako Smart Robotics system is renowned for its exceptional safety and precision in knee and hip replacement surgeries, delivering precise bone cuts while safeguarding healthy bone and soft tissue. Extensive research has revealed that patients benefit from reduced post-operative pain, swifter recovery, shorter hospital stays, minimal blood loss, and smaller, more cosmetically pleasing scars.
These advantages have solidified its status as a premier choice for orthopedic procedures worldwide. A key attribute of the system is its Accustop haptic feedback technology, which ensures that surgeons stay within virtual boundaries, enabling the utmost precision in bone cuts, implant placement, and the preservation of soft tissues. The Mako robotic arm-assisted surgical system boasts a global installation base exceeding 1,500 systems, with a track record of over 10 lakh successful procedures and a portfolio of more than 350 peer-reviewed publications.
With the introduction of this groundbreaking technology, Wockhardt Hospitals in Mumbai Central is poised to conduct a majority of knee and joint surgeries using the Stryker Mako robotic arm-assisted surgical system, ushering in a new era of patient care and surgical precision.
Zahabiya Khorakiwala, MD, Wockhardt Hospitals, said, “We are proud to introduce the Mako robotic-arm-assisted technology. This technology, in conjunction with our skilled surgical team and post-operative care, underscores our commitment to improving patient outcomes. It positions Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central as a center of excellence in bone and joint care.”
