The Government Introduces Ayushman Bhav to Provide Universal Coverage
Introducing Ayushman Bhav, a transformative healthcare initiative by the government aimed at achieving universal coverage for all citizens.

The Health Ministry plans to launch 'Ayushman Bhav' program to ensure government health schemes reach remote areas, including activities like Ayushman Apke Dwar 3.0, Ayushman Sabha, Ayushman Mela, and Ayushman Gram. The goal is to improve healthcare services and access to health scheme benefits.

An official source said -

“The aim of the campaign is to ensure comprehensive and saturation coverage of all health schemes so that every eligible beneficiary is able to avail their benefits.”

Ayushman Apke Dwar 1 and 2 drives were successful, with Ayushman Apke Dwar 3.0 set to begin on August 1 to expand healthcare services. Ayushman Sabha, a village-level campaign, aims to ensure people receive benefits from central and state government health schemes.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about PMJAY health insurance cards and Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts, promote screening services for non-communicable diseases, and eliminate communicable diseases like tuberculosis through health and wellness centers.

Another official source explained -

“These village sabhas will also help in generating awareness about reproductive and child health issues, immunization, nutrition, and anemia. Besides, they will foster social accountability of the health systems to the community by allowing them to express their issues and concerns related to the health services provided at AB-HWCs.”

Ayushman Sabhas will distribute PMJAY cards in villages and share information about nearby hospitals. The Ayushman Mela, part of the Ayushman Bhav program, will be held at Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centers (AB-HWCs), with medical camps at community health centers and medical colleges. With 705 colleges, each college is expected to organize 50 annual medical camps, treating 300–400 patients.

The source further added -

“All medical colleges together may be able to give treatment to at least 1.25–1.5 crore patients per year in camo mode at community health centers.”

These will be utilized for immunization, NCD screening, mental healthcare, elderly care, etc., on a weekly basis.

The objective is to reach those people who are excluded from specialty health services and make available specialty medical services up to block level, which have a shortage of specialist doctors. Ayushman Gram provides PMJAY cards, ABHA IDs, immunization, and NCD screening to everyone.

The source concluded -

“Whichever village will be able to saturate all the schemes, it will be declared an Ayushman gram and also will be given a certificate.”
