SPARSH Foundation conducted 'SPARSH Guru Namana,' providing free joint replacement surgeries for retired teachers in Bengaluru. A transformative initiative for rural educators.
SPARSH Foundation, the charitable arm of SPARSH Group of Hospitals, held a two-day event called 'SPARSH Guru Namana' on July 27th and 28th, 2023, to perform free joint replacement surgeries for retired teachers in Bengaluru. The initiative's goal was to provide life-changing surgeries to retired teachers from rural areas in the region.
Eligible retired teachers received Joint Replacement Surgeries at an event without financial burden. SPARSH Hospital provided medical facilities and a dedicated team of professionals volunteered for post-operative care.
Osteoarthritis is a prevalent form of arthritis, affecting over 180 million people globally, with women being more susceptible. India's aging population is expected to double in the next two decades, making it a significant health concern. Total Joint Replacement surgery is effective, but its cost and accessibility pose challenges. In 2014, India performed only 120,000 knee replacements, despite a vast population of 1.2 billion.
SPARSH GURU-NAMANA, launched in 2010, identifies retired teachers through screening camps in Bangalore, Raichur, Gulbarga, Hasan, and Davangere, offering joint replacement surgeries free of charge. Supported by various sections of society, the program celebrates Teacher's Day and serves as a tribute.
