Nephro Care India’s AI-enabled dialysis machine lowers costs and enhances access to renal care, especially in underserved rural areas.

Nephro Care India Limited (NCIL) is pioneering a breakthrough in renal care with its development of an AI-enabled Smart Haemodialysis Machine, designed to be remotely monitored. This indigenous machine aims to make dialysis more accessible and affordable for patients in India, especially in semi-urban and rural areas. By collaborating with the National Institute of Technology, Silchar, and receiving a grant from the Department of Science and Technology, West Bengal, NCIL is closer to making this essential healthcare innovation a reality.

Expected to reduce the cost of traditional haemodialysis machines by 70-75%, the prototype aims to lower the machine's price from Rs 7.5-8 lakh to around Rs 2 lakh.

"Most haemodialysis machines in India are imported, leading to high costs. Our aim is to make these machines locally, which can drastically reduce the treatment expenses for patients with advanced renal issues," said Dr. Pratim Sengupta, Founder, MD, and CEO of Nephro Care India.

NCIL’s smart haemodialysis machine will enable remote monitoring, offering a vital solution to patients who travel over 50 kilometers for treatment due to the lack of rural dialysis centers.

"We’re excited to be among the first private sector players receiving a state government grant to develop this technology. Our goal is to bridge the renal care gap in underserved regions,” Dr. Sengupta noted.

Founded in 2014, NCIL has been a leader in renal care, recently establishing the 100-bed Vivacity Multispecialty Hospital in Kolkata. Addressing India’s renal care demand, with an annual requirement for 34 million dialysis sessions and a 65,000 machine shortage, NCIL’s initiative is poised to reshape access and affordability for renal care.
