The Medical Technology Association of India (MTaI) underscored the pivotal role of aligning Indian regulations with global standards to propel the medtech industry forward, as highlighted during a high-level meeting held at Shangri-La, New Delhi.

Pavan Choudary, Chairman of MTaI, emphasized the significance of amalgamating Indian regulations with international best practices, stating, “Harmonizing Indian regulations and standards with global best practices will be instrumental in furthering the medtech industry in India. It not only attracts international investment but also aligns India with global supply chains, supporting the government's Make in India initiative.”

The meeting convened international delegates, government stakeholders, and industry leaders, including Aseem Sahu from CDSCO and Abby Pratt from Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed). Discussions centered on addressing challenges within the medtech domain, encompassing tariff barriers, streamlining regulations, and fostering an attractive investment climate for global and domestic players.

Deputy Drugs Controller Aseem Sahu stressed the government's commitment to prioritizing quality and patient safety in policy decisions. He highlighted ongoing efforts toward global harmonization of standards, capacity building, and fostering innovation in the medtech space.

Choudary acknowledged the collaboration between government bodies, industry stakeholders, and international associations in crafting policy recommendations essential for the medtech sector's advancement. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the government's focus on the industry, facilitating its growth and recognition.

Abby Pratt commended MTaI for fostering dialogue between industry and government stakeholders. She highlighted the importance of harmonized regulations and global standards, praising the inclusive approach of the government in consulting with the industry. Pratt's remarks underscored India's potential to emerge as a key player in the global medtech arena.
