As Hangzhou hosts the 19th Asian Games, Mindray's healthcare solutions are taking center stage, providing cutting-edge medical support to athletes, coaches, and spectators.
Hangzhou is hosting the 19th Asian Games, marking its largest-ever edition, with over 12,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries and regions participating, marking the city's biggest event since the G20 Summit in 2016.
Hangzhou is set to host the Asian Games with over 20 million visitors and an 8-day National Holiday. With a population of over 12.3 million, the city faces challenges in addressing the increased emergency rescue and critical care needs. The focus is on supporting professional medical facilities and teams to better prepare for emergencies in Hangzhou and beyond.
Mindray's team collaborates with local hospitals and NGOs to provide inventive, interconnected, and integrated solutions.
World's first 5G emergency mobile ICU launches on buses
Just a few kilometers from the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium, also known as the "Big Lotus," where the opening ceremony of the Asian Games is taking place, Zhejiang University School of Medicine's Second Affiliated Hospital's top doctors are ready for any urgent medical needs.
On September 7, the hospital officially deployed its very first 5G mobileCU. This deployment allows doctors and nurses to offer critical care to patients on-site, precisely where and when emergency rescue is most urgently needed. Reportedly, this innovative mobile ICU, converted from an EV bus, is the world's very first of its kind.
Dr. Xu Shanxiang and his team transformed an EV bus into a fully functional ICU, capable of providing critical care and performing emergency surgeries when needed.
“This is an integrated system with monitor, defibrillation and ultrasound functions. All the emergency rescue including vital signs monitoring, life support, initial screening and radiographing can be done here.” Dr Shanxiang said in an interview with CGTN
Mindray's innovative products, such as the versatile BeneHeart DX defibrillator that combines defibrillation, vital signs monitoring, ultrasound, and ECG, as well as the TV50 transport ventilator, specifically designed to provide optimal patient transportation support, are seamlessly integrated into this mobile ICU. Additionally, Mindray's smart infusion system is also utilized.
The M-Connect solution synchronizes Mindray devices with a large touch screen, allowing doctors to easily adjust treatment with a few touches. This system enhances on-site diagnosis and rescue efforts, improving efficiency and safety during patient transportation, and significantly improves emergency rescue operations.
This mobile ICU is engineered to deliver emergency treatment for three to four patients simultaneously, necessitating a high level of medical equipment integration on board. The bus can be deployed to any public locations with large crowds during the Asian Games.
Furthermore, the mobile ICU can establish a connection with the hospital via the 5G network, enabling real-time consultation and expert-guided rescue. Doctors at the hospital can initiate preparation steps, ranging from the emergency room to the operating room and subsequently to the ICU, based on the live signals received from the vehicle.
During an interview with China Central Television, Dr. Wang Jian'an, President of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Chair of the Heart Center, and a renowned interventional cardiologist, emphasized that the innovative 5G-enabled mobile ICU is not only poised for the Hangzhou Asian Games but is also ready to respond to future emergency rescue operations, disaster relief efforts, and large-scale events.
“Moving forward, we want to better benefit the general public. More importantly, I believe that through the improvement of our ability in emergency rescue, we will further promote the level of mobile first aid in China. We shall promote the concept of mobile ICU and have such innovative solutions accessible to more. We also need to further discuss the standards and rescue procedures in the future”, added Dr Jian’an.
Zaiwen Li, Senior Vice President, Mindray says
“Equipped with Mindray’s innovative products, the 5G mobile ICU can not only support large-scale events like the Asian Games, but also scenarios like disaster relief. We will continue our collaboration with top experts globally to explore more possibilities for emergency medicine. And Mindray is standing by to make sure that Hangzhou’s innovative solutions are available for more in need.”
Hangzhou has used Mindray solutions.
Hangzhou, a vital regional healthcare hub, is leveraging the Asian Games to expand its healthcare services and set the gold standard for Asia by pushing boundaries.
Top athletes and Paralympians from across Asia compete for honor in 56 venues located in Hangzhou and five other cities in Zhejiang. The need for high-quality medical care extends to athletes, coaches, and support teams from Asian countries, as well as spectators from both within and outside of Zhejiang Province.
Furthermore, professional medical support is required not only within the sports venues but also at the Asian Games Village and the Main Media Center. The 19th Asian Games Organizing Committee coordinates and delivers support through Zhejiang Province's public hospital system.
Mindray solutions, in conjunction with Zhejiang's top doctors and nurses from public hospitals, are ready to deliver timely medical care.
The Asian Games Sailing Center in Xiangshan County, Ningbo City, is facing unique challenges due to the Hangzhou Asian Games sailing contests being held far out at sea. To respond quickly, the local rescue team uses fast boats and Mindray's multi-functional ultrasound and vital sign monitoring mobile devices to provide emergency medical care to the athletes on board.
A 5G smart network in Hangzhou enables doctors to consult with top experts for critical care transportation of severely injured patients. This network enables real-time sharing of vital signs and imaging, bringing together the best medical expertise. These systems are not just designed for large events but also benefit local communities and residents in the long term.
To ensure the utmost health and readiness for emergencies, the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou Organizing Committee has deployed AED devices in all 56 arenas throughout Zhejiang. All staff and volunteers have undergone training to perform emergency rescue procedures.
Hangzhou, one of China's prominent cities, takes a pioneering role in establishing a comprehensive first-aid system for the benefit of the general public. This beautiful city has seen the installation of over 7,000 AEDs in various locations, including the airport, train stations, subway stations, schools, shopping malls, tourist attractions, and numerous other public buildings.
Over the years, Mindray has collaborated with NGOs and local health authorities to install AEDs across the city and provide first-aid training sessions. As of now, Mindray's AEDs make up more than 70 percent of Hangzhou's entire AED network.
In preparation for the Asian Games, the Mindray team has conducted thorough inspections of all AED devices across Hangzhou. Additionally, Mindray has implemented a mobile smart mini-app for tracking AED devices.
Practises in Hangzhou serve as a model for Asia and beyond
Mindray has partnered with industry experts to enhance healthcare solutions in Hangzhou's public first-aid rescue network, Zhejiang's public healthcare system, and the innovative 5G mobile ICU.
Mindray's pioneering efforts in Hangzhou leading up to the Asian Games serve as a model for innovative healthcare solutions. Importantly, this extends beyond the Asian Games or the city of Hangzhou, influencing healthcare practices not only in Asia but also worldwide.
