Kauvery Hospital Alwarpet, part of the renowned Kauvery Group of Hospitals, achieves a medical milestone with the successful extraction of a complex spinal cord tumor.
In a remarkable feat of medical prowess, Kauvery Hospital Alwarpet, a distinguished member of the esteemed Kauvery Group of Hospitals, successfully conducted an intricate 28-hour surgery resulting in the 98 percent removal of a complex spinal cord tumor.
The resilient patient, a septuagenarian who had previously undergone three unsuccessful surgeries in Bengaluru, turned to Kauvery Hospital following persistent symptoms. Driven by a multidisciplinary team under the guidance of Dr. Balamurali, Head of Spine Surgery, the procedure navigated the intricacies of tumor removal, involving the delicate separation of the jawbone and addressing extensive growth impacting vital structures.
The benign schwannoma, originating from the spinal nerve, posed significant challenges as it encroached upon the windpipe, affecting swallowing and speech. The meticulous two-stage surgery resulted in the successful extraction of 98 percent of the tumor, leaving only a minor portion attached to a major blood vessel.
Following the extensive procedure, the patient experienced a remarkable recovery, regaining mobility, finding relief from neck pain, and resuming normalcy after three weeks of hospitalization and rehabilitation. MRI scans post-surgery confirmed the absence of tumor recurrence, highlighting its benign nature and the success of the intervention.
Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Kauvery Group of Hospitals, expressed deep appreciation for the clinical team's expertise and the unwavering trust exhibited by the patient's family in the hospital's multidisciplinary approach.
This achievement stands as a testament to Kauvery Hospital's commitment to medical excellence and its unwavering dedication to providing exceptional care, even in the face of the most challenging medical conditions.
