Discover how Honeywell’s AI-powered Digital Holographic Microscopy enhances healthcare diagnostics with rapid, precise infection detection.

Honeywell has unveiled Digital Holographic Microscopy (DHM), an AI-powered technology designed to enhance precision in particle and cell classification. This innovation has broad applications across multiple industries, particularly in healthcare, where timely analysis and operational efficiency are critical.

In healthcare, DHM plays a crucial role in expediting treatment for peritoneal dialysis patients. Currently, diagnosing infections in these patients can take up to 1-2 days, increasing the risk of complications. By utilizing a portable device equipped with a laser, imaging sensor, and disposable microscope slide, DHM captures real-time images of dialysis fluid. AI algorithms then analyze these images to detect infections quickly, ensuring faster and more effective treatment.

According to Sarah Martin, president of Honeywell Sensing Solutions, the demand for rapid and precise diagnostic solutions is increasing. She emphasized that DHM enhances accessibility and efficiency in patient care, empowering healthcare professionals with faster decision-making tools.

Beyond clinical applications, DHM can also be used for environmental monitoring, analyzing air pollutants to improve indoor air quality. Additionally, it helps assess cell and microorganism presence in liquid samples, ensuring quality and safety.

Unlike traditional microscopy, DHM eliminates the need for complex lenses and staining procedures. Instead, it uses light-based holographic imaging, processed by AI, to deliver high-resolution results in a more accessible and efficient manner. This innovation reflects Honeywell’s commitment to leveraging AI and automation for improved patient outcomes and streamlined laboratory analysis.
