Healthtech 1, a London-based startup automating administrative tasks in primary care for the NHS, has raised £2.7 million.

Founded by former Monzo web engineer Peter Huang and ex-Accenture consultant Raj Kohli, Healthtech 1 automates processes such as GP registration and lab reports. The company has criticized the standard NHS registration system for being slow and error-prone.

Healthtech 1 has developed identity-checking algorithms backed by NHS records, which it claims are more efficient.

“When you work inside a GP practice every day, you realize that NHS staff are in desperate need of tech that works,” said Kohli. “What’s the bet that this little startup inside an NHS GP practice can have more positive impact on primary care with £2.7 million than the next government?”

Founded in 2021, the startup began as a temporary project to provide workload relief to NHS workers during the Covid-19 pandemic. As of 2024, Healthtech 1 claims to have “saved more than 85,000 hours of NHS staff time.”

The investment round was led by VC firm Moonfire and included participation from the prestigious Silicon Valley accelerator Y Combinator. In 2023, Healthtech 1 also received a £310,000 grant from government-backed agency Innovate UK.
