Granules India Expands into Peptide Segment with Senn Chemicals Acquisition
Granules India acquires Senn Chemicals AG to expand its peptide and CDMO business, enhancing innovation in pharmaceuticals and therapeutics.

Granules India, a leading generic drug manufacturer, is venturing into the peptide segment and contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) business through its acquisition of Swiss-based Senn Chemicals AG. This acquisition, expected to close in the first half of 2025, will enhance Granules’ capabilities in peptide synthesis and contract-based research, development, and manufacturing.

Senn specializes in liquid-phase (LPPS) and solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS), serving global clients in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, amino acid derivative (AAD), and theragnostic industries. The company’s manufacturing facility is ISO 9001:2015 certified and approved for cGMP production by Swissmedic, whose inspections are recognized by the US FDA under a mutual recognition agreement.

Granules and Senn have been collaborating on the development of two GLP-1-based active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), with plans to expand their peptide-based API portfolio using Senn’s research expertise. This acquisition strengthens Granules’ presence in Europe, providing access to a skilled R&D talent pool and a well-regulated market.

By integrating Senn’s specialized capabilities with its large-scale, cost-efficient manufacturing, Granules aims to become a key player in peptide-based therapeutics, spanning pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and theragnostic applications. This move aligns with Granules’ vision of science-driven innovation and expansion into next-generation therapeutics, solidifying its position as a trusted partner in complex drug development.
