Fortis Hospital Mulund successfully conducted a groundbreaking Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery on Akshada Shinde, a Parkinson’s patient. Driven by constant hand tremors and mobility issues, Akshada found relief through targeted electrical stimulation implanted in her brain.
Fortis Hospital Mulund achieved a medical milestone by performing a successful Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery on Akshada Shinde, a 52-year-old woman battling Parkinson’s Disease for over a decade.
The surgical intervention, led by Dr Gurneet Singh Sawhney, Senior Consultant-Neuro and Spine Surgery, and Dr Syed Moeed Zafar, Movement Disorder Neurologist, involved implanting a device in the brain to deliver targeted electrical stimulation, significantly alleviating Akshada’s symptoms.
Akshada, a factory supervisor, had been grappling with constant hand tremors and mobility challenges, impacting her daily life.
Despite medication, her condition worsened over time, leading to social isolation. After consultations at Fortis Hospital Mulund, she underwent DBS surgery, resulting in remarkable improvement. Dr Gurneet Singh Sawhney praised Akshada's resilience, noting a positive transformation in her confidence post-surgery.
