Fortis Hospital Mulund brings hope to Parkinson's patient with successful DBS surgery, while the Fortis Cancer Summit convenes experts to discuss advancements in precision oncology, AI, and immunotherapy.

Fortis Hospital Mulund achieved a medical milestone by performing Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery on Akshada Shinde, a 52-year-old woman battling Parkinson’s Disease for over a decade. Employed as a factory supervisor, Akshada's life had been profoundly impacted by constant hand tremors, hindering her daily activities. Despite years of medication, her condition worsened, prompting the need for advanced intervention.

Diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, Akshada's debilitation reached a point where conventional treatment was insufficient. Fortis Hospital Mulund recommended Deep Brain Stimulation, a surgical procedure involving the implantation of a device in the brain for targeted electrical stimulation, alleviating symptoms associated with movement disorders. Dr Gurneet Singh Sawhney, Senior Consultant-Neuro and Spine Surgery, and Dr Syed Moeed Zafar, Movement Disorder Neurologist, conducted an evaluation and determined Akshada's suitability for DBS. The surgery proved successful, leading to a significant improvement in Akshada's condition.

Dr Gurneet Singh Sawhney expressed admiration for Akshada's resilience and noted the positive transformation post-surgery. Akshada's improved confidence was evident at her recent birthday celebration, marking a significant improvement in her overall well-being.
