Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda founded a Sunday clinic in Velachery in 1989, initially treating patients under an avadumbara tree. Today, the clinic operates daily with a doctor team.

A general physician is available daily from 6.45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., with eye specialists on Saturdays and paediatricians on Sundays.

Dr A Sivasubramanian, medical convenor says -

“Consultation is free for all but medicines are given free of cost only to the underprivileged.”

The facility offers Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, daily de-addiction consultations, free diabetic camps, and rural camps in Perukkaranai and Krishnan Karanai villages.

Srinivas Young Men’s Association (SYMA) medical center in Triplicane offers a ₹2 consultation fee. General consultations are free, while specialists (ENT, orthopaedician, neurologist, psychologist) require a ₹100 appointment fee. SYMA has a lab (with Neuberg Diagnostics) open 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. Physiotherapy is ₹100, the Pammal Sankara Eye Hospital eye clinic is ₹50. Health camps are periodic.

Mylapore Academy manages Dhanvanthri Vaidyasala Charitable Dispensary, offering general medicine, dentistry, ophthalmology, and physiotherapy for over 50 years with a ₹10 token fee.

Dr. K Sridhar established a free evening clinic at Sri Ratnagiriswarar Temple in Besant Nagar in the mid-80s, providing free consultations and two days of medicines. The clinic's local community manages daily operations, ensuring punctuality and cleanliness.

“The consultation fee Is now ₹5. From Monday to Saturday, the clinic is open from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and we get an average of 20 patients every day. Depending on the need, the general physician refers patients to consultants at their clinic who offer free service.”

Dr Sridhar expanded this model to Triplicane, Thiruvanmiyur, Sriram Nagar, and Mylapore, now operated independently.

Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre in Chennai offers free care to underprivileged diabetics at two clinics. The clinics, Ambattur and Raja Annamalaipuram, provide blood glucose testing, consultation, medicines, and access to diabetologists, eye consultants, dietitians, and fitness trainers.

Ambattur Rotary Hospital provides affordable care and houses a free cerebral palsy rehabilitation center. The center offers advanced equipment and physiotherapists, serving around 20 children on weekdays, and more on weekends.
