Amrita Hospital unveils specialized clinics for Sarcoidosis and Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD), offering crucial care for respiratory conditions.

Amrita Hospital in Kochi has unveiled two dedicated clinics for Sarcoidosis and Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD), providing essential care for individuals with suspected or established intestinal diseases and pulmonology issues.

These clinics assemble a team of multidisciplinary experts, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as ILD and Sarcoidosis.

The inauguration ceremony, held during the BUILD Summit-24, saw Professor Athol Wells, a renowned expert in Respiratory Medicine from Imperial College, London, inaugurating the clinics. Professor Wells emphasized the clinics' significance, stressing the importance of diagnosis, treatment, and creating awareness among general practitioners and paramedical professionals.

ILD and Sarcoidosis are respiratory conditions that demand medical assessment for proper diagnosis and management. Sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disorder affecting the lungs and lymph nodes, requires corticosteroid treatment, while ILD comprises lung disorders causing interstitial tissue inflammation and scarring, each requiring specific treatments.

The impact of these conditions on patients' quality of life and survival necessitates specialized care.

The ILD Clinic at Amrita Hospital addresses the growing need for advanced-stage lung conditions, which may require lung transplants in India.

The 'Sarcoidosis Clinic' focuses on providing early treatment for a condition that can be cured within two years if addressed promptly. These clinics signify a significant stride in addressing complex medical challenges in India.

The BUILD Summit spanned two days, engaging over 70 participants. The first day included a hands-on workshop on diagnostic approaches and treatment strategies for ILDs, while the second day featured conference sessions covering various aspects of ILD management. Leading experts from India and abroad led discussions exploring advancements, trends, and perspectives related to ILDs.

Dr. Asmita Mehta, Professor and Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Amrita Hospital, Kochi, expressed the significance of these clinics, stating, "The inauguration of two clinics for respiratory conditions is a milestone in healthcare. With ILD on the rise, the management of these respiratory conditions has become challenging in India. These clinics are a testament to our commitment to providing quality care, addressing a need in the healthcare landscape, and improving patient outcomes."
