Amrita Hospital in Kochi has launched "SWALLO," a mobile application designed to help individuals with dysphagia cope with swallowing disorders. SWALLO offers interactive video-based therapy sessions, eliminating the need for frequent hospital visits.

The app, initially accessible to Amrita Hospital patients, will later be released on app stores. It features live interactive sessions with doctors, available by appointment, in Malayalam with English subtitles, and eventually supports various Indian languages.

The SWALLO app provides remote therapist monitoring for managing dysphagia, addressing various causes like cancer treatments and neurological issues, while emphasizing the importance of nutrition in improving swallowing function.

This innovative app was developed by a dedicated team from Amrita University, led by Dr. Maneesha Vinodini Ramesh, Provost and Director of AMRITA Center for Wireless Networks & Applications, alongside Ramesh Guntha, Research Associate, and Dr. Rahul Krishnan, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Center for Wireless Networks & Applications (WNA) at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. The clinical team involved in its creation includes Dr. Subrahmanian Iyer, Chairman of Amrita Swallow Centre Head and Neck Surgical Oncology, Dr. Krishnakuanr Thankappan, Head of the Department for Head and Neck Surgical Oncology, and Arya CJ, Chief Deglutologist at Amrita Swallow Centre, Amrita Hospital, Kochi.
