A Glimpse into Apollo's Pediatric Liver Transplants

Apollo Hospitals achieved 23,000 transplants, setting milestones in kidney, liver, and pediatric liver transplants. The program's dedication prevailed amidst challenges, performing over 1,200 transplants annually.
Apollo Hospitals' Transplant Program has completed 23,000 transplants, including 18,500 kidney, 4,300 liver, and 500 pediatric liver transplants. Since 2012, it has performed over 1,200 transplants annually, even during the COVID pandemic. In 2022, it reached 1,641 transplants, becoming the first in India to achieve these milestones.
Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Founder Chairman of Apollo Hospitals Group, New Delhi, expressed his pleasure in witnessing patients' trust and recognition of their efforts to provide healthcare. He emphasized Apollo's commitment to clinical excellence and the fusion of care and technology in advancing healthcare standards both in India and globally.
India's emergence as a medical treatment hub for international patients has led to Apollo earning a reputation in solid organ transplantation and healthcare technology. Notably, 30 percent of the 23,000 transplants were performed for international patients. The program contributes to approximately 12 percent of all transplants in India and handles one percent of global transplant procedures.
Apollo's transplant expertise has attracted patients from over 50 countries. Dr. Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice-Chairperson of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise, mentioned India's status as a healthcare leader and Apollo's commitment to delivering care to all individuals. The Apollo Transplant Program boasts a team of surgeons and specialists dedicated to patients with end-stage organ failure worldwide.
Dr. Anupam Sibal, Group Medical Director, and Senior Pediatric Gastroenterologist at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals celebrated the program's accomplishments, which now include various complex transplant procedures, such as heart-lung and multi-organ transplants. The track record boasts ABO incompatible transplants, liver transplants in small children, and other innovative techniques.
